Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca - Ithaca, New York

Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca is a 204-bed, acute
care facility that offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and
treatment services. This not-for-profit, regional health
care facility has been providing health care to the
citizens of Ithaca and the greater Finger Lakes
Region for more than 100 years. Cayuga Medical
Center at Ithaca is affiliated with many prestigious
health care organizations.
In December 2006, a new Emergency Department
opened. The spacious department sees approximately
30,000 patients annually. The square-shaped
department, which features a Fast Track, has nursing
stations at each corner making all private rooms visible
to the staff. Patients seen are approximately 47%
general medicine, 28% trauma, 20% pediatrics, and
5% orthopedic. The emergency physicians do not
write admitting orders and must respond to all hospital
codes. X-ray is located within the department, and
there is a tube system for labs. All medical specialties
are represented except for cardiothoracic surgery.

Ithaca is located in the central Finger Lakes Region
of New York State, 5 hours from NYC, three hours
from Niagara Falls, 2 hours from Rochester, and 4.5
hours from Philadelphia. Ithaca sits at the southern
tip of 40-mile long Cayuga Lake, the longest of the 11
Finger Lakes. The areas unofficial slogan is Ithaca is
Gorges because more than 150 gorges and waterfalls
are within 10 miles of the downtown area.
The Ithaca region is an outdoor enthusiasts dream
come true. The Danby State Forest has miles of rustic
hiking trails. It was also voted Best Fly Fishing
Through North America by Fish and Fly Magazine
and one of Americas Five Best Mountain Biking
Towns by Bike Magazine. Ithaca has also been
ranked as the third best place in America to live for
other reasons: great schools, more restaurants per
capita than New York City, a lively downtown area
for shopping, and convenience to larger cities.
Home to one of Americans finest Ivy League
universities, Cornells campus is frequently heralded
as one of the most beautiful in the nation with 745
acres nestled among woodlands, gorges, and waterfalls.
The student enrollment is almost equal to the full-time
population, creating an intellectual and hip community.
